The model is a modified finished locomotive from Bachmann. Including a brand new cab in laser cut wood + many scratch-built parts and modifications. Painted and weathered with acrylic, enamel, oil paints and pigment powders. This model won the Swedish Nationals in scale modeling in the catogory “Others”. READ MORE
This module was a pure speedbuild and took about 3 weeks to complete. I decided that I it would be done in time for C4-Open witch of course meant taking a lot of shortcuts and many things could be done better. but what the heck its done and it´s the first part of my Florida railroad in on30! I would prefer taking photos of this module in natural sunlight but there is no sun in Sweden now for a couple of months so studio lights will have to do. Part 1 of the build you can find here.
As the title says, this is my first attempt at weathering an HO-car (1:87 scale). Really fun to work with such an big canvas compared to N-Scale (1:160 scale). More to come as I start a new adventure in HO! READ MORE
A completly new model railroad exhibit held last weekend 3-4 november in Stockholm. A great show that I hope will return next year! Lots of modular railroading and fun shoping. READ MORE
In the summer of 2011 we visited California and at that visit California State Railroad Museum was at the top of my list. To see all this historical railroad equipment was a dream come true. The amazing surrounding of the historical district of Sacramento made it even better. Wandering around like a kid in the candy store with the jaw glued to the floor I only managed to snap a couple of decent pictures but here they are! 🙂 READ MORE
Thank you for all the support this year and I wish everyone a happy holiday! And here are some pretty winterscapes for you to enjoy! 🙂
Conrail #4020 charges through the fresh snow with an “Office Car Special”. It was tough chasing the train on the snow covered roads!
Nevada Northern #93 operating on Heber Valley Railroad line for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics.
Yep Houston, we have a problem! L572 is stuck at MP 408 on the Omaha Sub, couple miles east of Yetter, IA. Big drifts and bad power cause this train to become stuck. Took contractors about 12 hours of digging to get this power dug out so 4 more unit could pull the train out. Drifts higher than the power isnt unusual during hard winter in western Iowa. It can be fun and miserable all in one.
Burr A wind chill of -30 made for a cold shoot, M337 is punching some small drifts.
Steamscape: Inspiration Point. The White Pass Rotary Fleet claws its way past Inspiration Point en route to another day of operations to clear the line for the opening of the tourist season, which is little more than a week away. The sun is now peeking over the aptly-named Sawtooth Range to the southeast and is finally beginning to erase the shadows in the valley. Each day, the conductor of our photographer’s train, Craig Cline, would stop just beyond the Cantilever Bridge and allow us to hike to the spot from which this photo was taken. I must tell you that watching the plow train ascend the mountain from here is every bit as thrilling as watching a double-header climb to Cumbres Pass in Colorado. The scenery is entirely different, but the experience is the same. The one thing I could not capture with my camera was the sound. The sound of the steam engines hammering up the steep grade and their whistles echoing off the mountains is a memory of this place that I will always keep.
Snow, wind and cold. A westbound freight creeps out of the western portal of the Allegheny Tunnel, greeted by snow covered tracks. With the wind whipping, I was surprised I was able to keep the lens clean long enough to get a shot.
I have just finished weathering an narrow gauge steam locomotie, Forney in On30 (1:48 scale) made from Bachmann. It’s a lovely little engine and will be featured in the next issue of the Swedish modeling magazine “Allt om Hobby”.

Weathering steam engines and locomotives is something i’m going to try very soon. So finding good prototype images to see how steam engines look after heavy use is my first step. Though quite fast I realized that it was going to be hard to find good reference pictures when all the period images are in black & white. Therefore I found some more recent pictures of Chinese locomotives in full color to be more accurate for my weathering ambitions. Yes they still use steam locomotives to some extent today. Check it out:
Dahuichang Narrow Gauge
Dahuichang Narrow Gauge
Narrow gauge 0-8-0 No 31 restarts it`s train of logging empties at Liu Jia Tun with a train from Shanhetun. It had stopped here to pass a diesel railcar.
Fuxin is located in Liaoning Province and is accessible by train from either Shenyang (about 180km) or Jinzhou (120km). Fuxin Coal Mining steam railway which has 12/15 SY locos in use and also a steam passenger service as well.
Nanpiao is not in some remote part of China but a mere 35 – 40km from the city of Jinzhou, Liaoning.

The YJ design is based on pre-war PL2 class 2-6-2, itself derived from the JF6 2-8-2, the predecessor of the SY class mikado. A total of 202 YJ locos were produced between 1958 and 1961. The last YJ locomotive was used at the Baotou steel works and was retired from service in 2002.
At the end of the 90’s a few PL2’s were still operational at the Anshan steel works. Number 237 is seen here shunting. The last PL2 in service was thought to be Anshan steel works’ PL2 244 which was displaced by a diesel in February 2000.
Narrow gauge C-4 class 0-8-0 wheezes up Pinglin bank with a maximum load train on China’s last steam logger. Final abandonment was just six weeks away.
In a scene of Dickensian murk, the tiny MPD at Dahuichang housed these two ‘C2’ Class 0-8-0’s. In spite of their archaic appearance, these are relatively modern locomotives. Though Dahuichang sounds ever so romantic – it means Big Cement Factory!
Dahuichang Limestone Railway Steam 0-8-0
2 feet 6 inch gauge C2 0-8-0 No 03 waits for it`s train of limestone wagons to emerge from the tunnel at Dahuichang. They will be hauled on a cable to the loco. A couple of stray wagons litter the foreground.
The Weiyuan Coal Railway is only about three miles long, and runs to a truck reload. It exists on a day to day basis only because local village elders will not let the coal company drive coal trucks through narrow village streets and the village market. The railroad has two serviceable C2 0-8-0’s seemingly held together by asbestos paste!

A Chinese class C2 narrow gauge (762mm) is at the Shibanxi station…obviously experiencing a few steam leaks.
I have just finished an article for the coming number of the Swedish magazine Allt om Hobby. It will feature my step-by-step instructions for weathering this blue car. I greatly appreciated the process for working with them and can’t wait to see the finished product.
These are some quick shots to show you what’s coming.

Sailing ships and trains at long wharf soon after opening by Central Pacific, now Southern Pacific on January 16, 1871. CP brought trains of the first transcontinental RR into Oakland along 7th street to the first wharf in 1859(69), the wharf was located at Biggon’s Point, near site of the present (1930) Oakland Pier. the first wharf was built by the San Francisco and Oakland Railroad Co which inaugurated Ferry and Rail service between SF and Oakland ( Broadway St on Sept 2 1863. The long wharf seen here was used for freight after Oakland Mole was opened January 22, 1882. the Long wharf was abandoned 1918-19
The Oakland hills were covered with a vast redwood forest known as the San Antonio Redwood, which had some of the largest trees on earth. Between 1842 and 1853 this forest was logged extensively to supply San Francisco with lumber. The area’s first steam sawmill was built on the edge of Montclair in 1850. A logging road from the mill, later Park Blvd., connecting to the wharf at the foot of 13th Avenue, where ships transported lumber to San Francisco from this estuary. This forest was gone by 1860.
